Aveng Trident Steel, unveiled its new blanking press line at its Port Elizabeth premises in July 2011. The 630 ton Servo Press Blanking line, which was manufactured by Shuler of Gemminen in Germany, allows Aveng Trident Steel to press curved, trapezoidal or straight-edge blanks cost effectively for the motor manufacturing industry. The press will supply the local motor industry, which is currently supplied from press operations in Gauteng, thereby saving on transport costs and increasing associated local activities such imports of special steels through the Port Elizabeth harbour.
Aveng Grinaker-LTA, through its Buildings division, in 2010 began work on the Blue Route Mall. This includes refurbishments and additions to regional shopping centre. Through Aveng Manufacturing Steeledale, the group also involved in the manufacturing and supply of a comprehensive range of quality wire and welded mesh products used in the construction and engineering sector. Some of their specialist construction products include reinforcing mesh, multi-purpose steel lattice, welded mesh gabions and mattresses and cold rolled hard-drawn wire.
PILING FOR P.D.S TECHNOLOGIES
Aveng Ground Engineering has been awarded the contract for the Piling works of P.D.S Technologies’ new offices and warehouse in Snoek Road, Wadeville.
The scope of works includes the design and installation of 52 continuous flight auger (CFA) piles and interestingly the client has requested a Bible be cast into one of the piles.
The project commenced in July 2015 and is expected to be completed within 2 weeks.
Helio’s new 448 000m3 oil storage facility was commissioned to meet increasing market demand for additional tank capacity by bulk fuel suppliers.
McConnell Dowell was the contractor for mechanical and civil works associated with the new liquid storage and blending facility, procuring and constructing tank foundations, pipe racks, bund walls, valve and pump manifold, piping, loading arms, jetty topsides, among others. All structural steel and large bore pipe spools were fabricated at McConnell Dowell’s fabrication facility in Batam.
MICRO PILING FOR THE CENTRAL SQUARE DEVELOPMENT IN SANDTON
The contract was secured after Aveng Ground Engineering was able to offer the Project team an effective solution that optimised the design and program requirements. The column loadings of the partially completed building are being increased, therefore requiring the foundations to be upgraded.
The scope of works includes the design and installation of 60 R51 self-drilling micro (SDA) piles. The piling will all be done in limited headroom areas.
Aveng Trident Steel secured a substantial portion of the supply of steelwork for the new coal fired power station being built by Eskom. When completed, the power station will have six boilers each powering an 800MW turbine, producing 4 800MW of power.
Aveng Grinaker-LTA, through its DSE division, fabricated the compression ring, columns supporting the compression ring and temporary support steelwork for the main arch of the stadium, which has a planned maximum capacity of 70 000. The total steelwork mass fabricated for the stadium amounted to 3 900t. All steel was supplied by the DSE fabrication facility in Vanderbijlpark.
