LEAP has its origins in the Western Cape as the only privately funded MST (maths, science and technology) school in South Africa.

The school aims to provide disadvantaged students with access to tertiary study opportunities; to be successful in their chose n career path; and to develop as socially responsible citizens of South Africa. The LEAP school model concentrates on the last four years of high school (Grades 9 to 12) and focuses on whole learner development and rigorous academic training. LEAP selects children from a specific community who have not had access to schooling outside of township schools. Learners are given the opportunity to progress with maths, science and English at the highest levels. In January 2010, the Trust approved a grant of R2,5 million towards the establishment of a new LEAP school in Diepsloot. LEAP Diepsloot, funded entirely by the Aveng Group, welcomed 47 foundation level learners (Grade 9) in January 2011. Of these 27 are girls and 20 are boys. The school is currently housed in facilities run by Akani – another non-profit organisation that only uses the buildings on weekends and in the afternoons. 77% of school registration fees of R260 per learner per year have been paid – indicating a high level of commitment by parents of the learners. The school has successfully partnered with Dainfern College and makes use of its facilitie s for afternoon classes. Dainfern learners will also be taken on a tour of Diepsloot by LEAP students on Saturday mornings.
Much has been done to build relationships in the community – particularly with the surrounding schools and parents/caregivers of the learners.
LEAP has achieved remarkable success.
